  1. Looking at the Hinsdale rating. The course record is 14:30 by Chris Derrick in his senior year. (http://www.kompusport.com/results/xcountry/2007/hornet-reddevil/boys_var.html)

Does the 14:14 = 200 suggest that the course ran easier this year (temps were lower than normal)? How does the rating compare to last year when it was 90+ degrees, and the state champ won the race? Looking at the past results, the winning time has stayed fairly consistent, but the number of runners at or under 16:00 has certainly grown.

  2. I do not recall what I have rated this course in the past, but if Chris ran 14:30 and then ran 14:26 at Detweiller the next week, I'm probably vastly overrating this race. For reference, my Detweiller rating is usually 200.0 = 13:50-13:55 (or, when it was slower like last year's state meet, closer to 14:00 ... final review from this spring put last year's state race at 14:01).

I don't take too much stock in early season ratings though (and neither should anyone else)... they are more of a rough guess until the real racing gets started (usually late September or mid October, depending on the program and their goals).
