Northwest Rankings - Oct. 13

I’ll be ranking the top 5 teams (plus mentioning the top Bubble teams in alphabetical order), and the top 15 individuals (but no Honorable mention, because to be honest I haven’t followed individuals as closely… tracking the top teams takes up enough of my time!). I hope to update this every other week, but I might be able to update it more (or less) often than that… stay tuned.

Note: Also, for other regions, no promises on individual rankings… but they won’t be included until next week at the earliest—too much research yet to do to meet my usual thoroughness standards.

  1. Seemingly not a lot of confidence in Montana. You have Adam Peterman lower ranked in the region than I would have him in the country. I'd be interested to see a Regional meet run tomorrow; we'll have to wait until Nov. 10. My feeling is that the point value given to the MT courses seems to be off. I know they are not slow courses, but they are 3 miles and at 3000ft. I feel like you may be off just a bit with Troy Fraley, Adam Peterman, and Bozeman's girls.

  3. Well, hopefully we'll find out in a few weeks. Not sure what the Montana trio have really done -- outside of Perrin's 3200 at Arcadia in the spring -- to justify a higher ranking, though.

  4. Thanks for the rankings. As I'm reminded every year at Border Clash, Washington has Oregon dominated right now, but I was a little surprised in the last Marc Bloom ratings (done before Adidas) that he had 9 Washington and 1 Alaska team ahead of anyone from Oregon.

  5. Yeah... I'm guessing that's because he goes by who beats who, while I don't really worry about team scores until championship season.

Summit getting beat at Northwest Classic (even without Neuman) made it seem like Jesuit had to be the team ranked at the top (because Siuslaw didn't look any better at that meet either). The week later, Jesuit finished 13th at Stanford - behind Nathan Hale, Lewis & Clark, Henry Jackson, and Olympia. That makes it real hard to make a case for an Oregon team to get any consideration, since those aren't necessarily top 10 teams in Washington... but if you don't pay so much attention to team scores, you see that Summit has a real good front trio and Siuslaw is about where they were expected to be going into the season. Both teams looked rank-able, even if they didn't yet have the wins to prove it.
