York IL qualified for NXN for the ninth straight year (re: they haven’t missed nationals yet) by winning the boys race 95-162 over Carmel IN. The #3/4 boys teams in the race were Cincinnati St. Xavier OH (211) and Columbus North IN (252). On the girls side, the expected showdown between Carmel IN and Naperville North IL did not disappoint as Carmel won 91-107. The #3/4 girls teams in the race were New Trier IL (125) and Mason OH (151). For the Individual qualifiers, the top five boys were Alex Riba (O’Fallon IL), Sam Wharton (Tippecanoe OH), TJ Carey (Lake Orion MI), Quentin Shaffer (Prospect IL), and Jack Keelan (St. Ignatius IL). On the girls side, the top five were Ashley Erba (Warsaw Community IN), Madeline Perez (Glenbard West IL), Taylor Werner (Sainte Genevieve MO), Mary Kate Vaughn (Oakwood OH), and Courtney Ackerman (New Trier IL). However, the early rumor is that Ashley Erba is going to decline the invitation to Portland, which means Bobbie Burgess (West Lafayette IN) would take her spot. Additionally, with New Trier IL finishing a fairly close third, a potential at-large invitation (though far from certainty, as the SW, NE/NY and CA meets are yet to be run) might result in Lauren Wood (Mason OH) moving on as well.

That's a major shame for ChicagoXC/Jones High. Per TrackTalk, their usual #1 went down with a major medical issue mid-race. Barely finished I guess. If he finishes where he has all year for them, including at state last weekend, they finish a strong 3rd place. Had the big races they needed from everyone else. Really sorry for them
