Quick Notes - Sep. 16

More notes from the last few days -

The answer to the question regarding Skyview has now been answered, as returning #1 runner Chanse Gilbert ran his first race since State XC last fall. He finished fourth in the double-dual meet against Union and Battle Ground to help his team win 22-39 over Union and 15-49 over Battle Ground.

In other 4A GSHL news, there has finally been a news story in regards to how the 4A District IV teams will qualify for state. You can read all the details here, but to summarize the Columbian story: XC and Track are combining with District III (sending to the regional meet the top 3 teams/15 individuals in XC, top 3 individuals in track) and just about every other sport is in some kind of special arrangement with the KingCo (District II) where the top team from KingCo qualifies automatically and the #2 and 3 teams from KingCo square off against the #2 and #1 teams from the GSHL for the other two spots to state. I don't remember seeing a situation where a District combines with different districts like this before, but it's better than nothing.

The Cheiftan (OR) Invitational XC results still aren't posted anywhere that I've seen, so I guess we won't get a good read on Crater (and therefore the Oregon 5A scene) until they show up at the Bob Firman Invite in Boise ID in a couple of weeks. That, by the way, is shaping up to be a GREAT meet once again: many of the top teams from Washington are travelling there this year, as well as Bozeman (Montana), Crater and Hermiston from Oregon, the best teams in Wyoming, the usual Idaho and Utah schools, plus two SoCal powerhouses in Great Oak and Redondo Union.

  1. I was at the Ft Steilacoom Invite today. The Tahoma boys looked strong. I think they had more competition this year than last, but still won handily. Schroeder defended his title, but had to run 30 seconds faster this year to do it.
The really impressive team was Claremont girls. They finished 5 in a row, 4-8. Numbers 6 & 7 weren't too far back. If they weren't there, Tahoma would probably have won that. Taylor Roe from Kamiak won the race by a long way.
