Taking a quick break from the stream of State specific
pre-season rankings for a minute, let’s look back at the program history for
the state of Oregon!
I did this a bit differently than in I have the past, as I
limited the max score to 330 for any team and used a 22-team merge rather than
the 15 or so teams I used to do for Oregon. Otherwise, same process as before:
As a reminder, here is the method I use:
1.
Merge ALL results from the state meet (all
classes)
2.
Remove all individual athletes
3.
Order athletes by time, breaking ties by place
and (if necessary) classification (as in general, smaller classes have less
competition which usually leads to slower times).
4.
Score the massive merge
5.
Re-score using only the top 30 teams (from the
mass merge)
6.
Re-score using only the top 22 teams (from the
30-team merge)
7.
Sum points for all years (2006-2014), plus add
330 for each time a school didn’t finish in the top 22, then divide by 9 (the #
of years included in the review, which I started at the first season of the
current classification structure)
