WA Class 3A Leaderboard - Oct. 20

(For more info on the rationale of these LEADERBOARDS, check out the All-Class Boys or Girls posts)

Note: For the team rankings, I didn’t limit it to what teams look to qualify; the information next to the team scores represent the teams’ position within their qualifying region/district compared to how many spots to state are available; times for individuals are included to better express what the ratings mean. Projected times are set to the Sun Willows 2008-2011 course average.

Notes#2: Cleaned out a few duplicate runners and corrected cases where two runners with the same name caused glitches in scoring. Also changed the script to represent where a team sits in its district, rather than rank district teams by their state score. Lastly, I also removed meets from before September 22 to keep these performances all within the last month while including all 2A-4A League/Conference meets from the last week that had full results on Athletic.net.

Nebraska State Results

Reversing the earlier results of the U. Nebraska-Kearney Invite (Sep. 29), Fremont boys (64) edged Millard South (66), Lincoln Southwest (70) and Kearney (89) to win the A team title. Interestingly, the power merge scores don’t follow the same pattern: the bigger field was enough to push the Millard South ahead of Fremont in the combined classes scoring (in other words, Fremont is the boys state champion but the teams were close enough that the result could easily have been reversed in bigger fields. I suspect a more elite field than the rest of Nebraska combined – such as the entire Heartland region – would shift the balance back in favor of Fremont due to the caliber of their front trio). Just like the boys race, the girls A team battle was a reversal of the earlier U. Nebraska-Kearney invite, as this time Lincoln East (62) edged Lincoln Pius X (67) and Kearney (87), though unlike the boys the girls power merge indicates the bigger, stronger field of the best of Nebraska would still go in favor of Lincoln East given these results.

Individually, Joe Harter (Millard West) ran 15:22.9 to beat Fremont’s Danny Aldaba (15:37.2) and North Platte’s Wyatt McGuire (15:49.8). All three ran times better than most of the previous state champions, with Harter running the second fastest, and Albada the fifth fastest, time at the state meet since 1987! Lincoln-North Star sophomore Jeralyn Poe was the fastest girl at 14:42.6, which means she continues to be the third fastest girl ever at the state meet (behind Emily Sisson 2006/2007 and Aubree Worden 2010).
