Northwest Rankings - Oct. 13

I’ll be ranking the top 5 teams (plus mentioning the top Bubble teams in alphabetical order), and the top 15 individuals (but no Honorable mention, because to be honest I haven’t followed individuals as closely… tracking the top teams takes up enough of my time!). I hope to update this every other week, but I might be able to update it more (or less) often than that… stay tuned.

Note: Also, for other regions, no promises on individual rankings… but they won’t be included until next week at the earliest—too much research yet to do to meet my usual thoroughness standards.

Assorted Results, part 1 - Oct. 13

Concordia/Adidas Classic OR – Many of the best in Oregon take on post-state Alaskans and Southwest Washingtonians (plus WA powerhouse Henry Jackson) every year, but this year Spokane’s Mead joined the fray and the results were electric: Andrew Gardner ran 14:45.5 over the 5k course to take down Trevor Dunbar’s (Kodiak AK) 2008 record of 14:47.7. On the girls side, freshman sensation Ella Donaghu (Grant) took out two more 2011 National qualifiers in South Eugene’s duo of Sara Tsai and Erin Clark, making it clear she is the top runner in Oregon and a favorite to qualify for a trip to Portland (or possibly San Diego, if Grant opts to not run NXN). The previous course record (set by Tsai at 17:41 last year) was broke by the top three girls as they ran 17:32.0, 17:32.8 (Tsai) and 17:35.1 (Clark). Teamwise, Summit OR (136) showed again why they are possibly the best boys team in the state of Oregon, taking down Oregon 4A juggernaut Siuslaw (150) and Washington’s Henry Jackson (165). With three runners in the top six of such a loaded field (and all at 15:20 or faster and within 35 seconds of a US Top-5/10 guy in Andrew Gardner), they are bound to look even stronger in a smaller but more elite field such as NXN-NW or even NXN… on the girls side, it was Grant scoring 90 points to edge South Eugene (93), a tight team battle that will continue in two more weeks with the addition of Jesuit, Sunset and St. Mary’s Academy at the Oregon 6A State meet.

Full results are available at Athletic.net, Oregon’s milesplit or Runnerspace.
