On the girls' side you can compare Nike South Invitational earlier this season - Sophie Chase and Katie Jensen both ran in that race. Chase, who is nationally ranked very high, ran 17:40 ish on this same course earlier in the season. Today Jensen ran about 20 seconds faster than she did earlier in the season. Some great girls coming out of Texas this year!
ReplyDeleteSLC's top 4 on the boys side are as good a top 4 as anyones. Be interesting to see if they get the 5th man to step up a notch in Portland.
ReplyDeleteStill dominated here.
Very interesting to see what happens in Portland -- I think American Fork added their name to the national title contenders this weekend as well, which means it'll be 3-5 teams (depending on if Kai Wilmot is running for North Central, and if York has closed the gap) vying for the crown...
Delete"Same as usual"? Kingwood girls have made it to NXN four times in the previous eight years (more than any other girls team beside SLC).....
ReplyDeleteMeant no disrespect to any team.
DeleteIt seems that the south has generally been something along these lines:
Boys: Southlake Carroll, The Woodlands, and occasionally another team in the mix.
Girls: Southlake Carroll, The Woodlands, Kingwood, and College Park (though Kingwood Park has been there a couple times as well).
So with SLC and The Woodlands sweeping both spots and Kingwood and College Park taking third and fourth in the girls races, it seemed pretty standard.
No its not "standard". Again, you list, on the girls side: Southlake Carroll, The Woodlands, Kingwood . . . but the fact is Kingwood has qualified more often than The Woodlands. (They have also won more State titles than any other girls team and regularly finish ahead of The Woodlands at State.) It should read Southlake Carroll, Kingwood, The Woodlands . . .
ReplyDeleteThere is a difference between The Woodlands boys and Woodlands girls. Just sayin. If you mean no disrespect then you should acknowledge the difference. Happy for The Woodlands girls they qualified this year, but don't act like they usually do because they usually don't. Thanks.
The order I listed them doesn't matter... those are the four girls teams that have consistently been competitive in the region, and since those were the top four teams - and therefore, the two qualifiers were from those four programs - wasn't a surprise...
