I went to the Twilight meet in Marysville today. Only saw the varsity races, but that's all I'm interested in. Taylor Roe ran away from the field in the girls race. Both she and Malia Pivec broke 18 minutes. That course is really fast, partially because the finish is much lower in elevation that the start. Taylor was about 17:45. In the boys race, Nathan Pixler from Eastlake won. He chased down Nathan Beamer from Arlington and Kenan Schrag from Issaquah with less than 800 meters to go. The boys team race was very close, I saw posted results that Issaquah won (127 points), Interlake was second, and Arlington was third. I think Interlake and Arlington are going to challenge in 3A at State. Issaquah is probably the leading candidate to get second after Tahoma at 4A.
ReplyDeleteYeah, Interlake is a bit of a surprise for me, they've been doing pretty good so far. 3A is going to be interesting this year - even though NC hasn't been running as well as they have in the past, they are still the top team in the state, but after that there is no clear order.
DeleteThe boys race was separated by just 10 points - Issaquah, Interlake, Arlington, and Inglemoor. It was a crazy fast race for both the boys and girls. Kingco 4A is very competitive and all 9 schools were at the meet. It is going to be very difficult to qualify as an individual and a team for state out of their league this year.
ReplyDeleteSo, the Kingco 4A combines with D1 for state qualification. I'd say all 4 places will likely go to Kingco teams. I relooked at the scores. If Eastlake had had Cade Faulkner they would have won. It would have still been close, but assuming Faulkner ran the same time as last year, they score 130 points and win. So, I'd say the probability is 1. Eastlake 2. Issaquah 3. Inglemoor and 4. Skyline. to state. Of course, one never knows how things will develop as time goes forward.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I thought KingCo would probably have at least 4 in the top 7 (probably four in the top 5 and six in the top 9), but I thought that District I would have had at least one team in the mix to go to state at a minimum. Unfortunately, Lake Stevens hasn't look as strong as I had hoped and Jackson hasn't been as good as the KingCo teams either, which means a KingCo sweep is very possible. Snohomish is the only other team that seemed to have any shot, and they only have 1 runner under 16:30 so far... I hope that WESCO will join with the KingCo and GSHL next year and continue to combine allocations for state, because otherwise those 3 spots might tend to be pretty weak on the guys side for the next few years (while a pair of borderline Top-10 teams will be sitting at home during state in Seattle/Vancouver).
DeleteAlso, Cade Faulkner did run for Eastlake, just not very well (maybe he's sick or nursing an injury?) - #5 on their JV team. He's ran sparingly all year, so he may be recovering from an injury and they are bringing him along slowly.
