Coeur d’Alene made a statement that left little doubt they are one of the best teams in the Northwest, if not the nation, as they destroyed the 5A girls field scoring a low 29 points against the best Idaho has to offer. Coeur d’Alene girls had four of the nine fastest times in the state! The race for second was tight between the top District 3 teams as Vallivue (87) edged Boise (92), Rocky Mountain (98) and Timberline (107). On the boys side, it was Rocky Mountain asserting their dominance as they won 5A with 57 points. Pocatello sophomore Elijah Armstrong (15:34.1) cruised to a 31 second victory as he led his team to

Also, just wanted to say... I hadn't checked this earlier, but I'm very confused as to why other rankers (such as, but not limited to, Bloom and Milesplit) haven't even had Coeur d'Alene in their rankings all year! They've been crushing everyone they meet, and running good marks all along the way... I mean, just look at the Sunfair results: 4 under 19 and #5 at 19:26; Jesuit '10 (NXN#4) had 3 under 19 and #5 at 19:27, Glacier Peak '11 (NXN#16) had 2 under 19 and #5 at 20:04... you'd think that best All-Time performance on an often run course would have gotten them some credit, but hopefully this performance will wake people up to how good they've been this year.
ReplyDeleteAbout where do you think they should be ranked nationally Rob?
ReplyDeleteThat's a good question... I haven't looked too closely yet, but I'd guess somewhere in or near the top 10. Off the top of my head, I'm pretty sure I'd have them behind FM, Tatnall, Xavier Prep, Great Oak, Simi Valley, Naperville North, Carmel and Holy Names. I think they'd be ahead of the South teams and possibly the other Midwest teams. Not sure about the trio of Colorado teams, the chase pack of California teams, Assumption, Unionville and Pleasant Valley... so probably somewhere in the #9-15 range if I had to guess
Delete(and for what it's worth, I have them about 50 points ahead of Camas in the Northwest rankings at the moment, but with both Camas and Glacier Peak starting to hit their stride the last couple of weeks, that gap might shrink over the next couple weeks)
Do you know if CDA participates in NXN? I don't remember them being there in years past. Kinsey Gomez went to FL her senior year.
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty sure they've only been there once or twice so far. Hopefully they'll be there this year! Though if they aren't, that sure makes things a little easier for the WA/OR teams that are looking to battle for the other spot to Portland.
