... that is 18 of the top 25 teams on the boys side entered, and 18 of the top 35 teams on the girls side entered. Eight of the top 10 girls and nine of the top 10 boys. That is definitely better turnout than usual, especially on the girls side, which means there should be some great races this weekend!
Individuals were a different story, though. Surprisingly, unless something changes, Idaho's top finisher at State, Bishop Kelly ID's Nicholas Russell, is set to run in the Open race (with his team) rather than the championship race for the potential trip to Portland. Henry Jackson's Matthew Watkins is also missing from the field, though that isn't as much of a surprise (long trip to Boise from Everett). Same story for Tibebu Proctor (Northwest WA), and surprisingly for Austin Byrer as well (Lewiston ID - not as inaccessible a meet for him). West Salem's Ahmed Muhumed is in the field once again, although Mount Si WA's Joe Waskom is not. That means that only half of the Top 10 individuals on the boys side are set to race, and it is likely that at least some of those will qualify as teams to Portland, leaving the door open for someone outside the Northwest Top 10 to crack their ranks and earn a trip to Nationals.
Girls Individual field, however, is absolutely loaded. The only Top 18 runners not in the field are Washington's
EDIT: Taylor Roe is now in the field... not sure if I just didn't see her initially, or if she was a late addition. I'll assume the former; mea culpa.
Today's meet in Boise isn't streamed live anywhere is it? I know Nationals in Portland is.
ReplyDeleteThey used to, but I don't think they've been streaming it the last couple of years. I haven't seen any links for it.
